Several low molecular weight organogelators based around an oxotriphenylhexanoate (OTHO) core are developed and optimized with regard to; their gelation properties, and ability of releasing 1O2 upon thermal and/or photochemical external stimuli, in both gel phase and solution. Remarkably, reversible phase transitioning between the gel and solution phase are also demonstrated. Taken together two complementary modes of releasing 1O2, one thermally controlled over time, and one rapid release by means of photochemical stimuli is disclosed. These findings represent the first phase reversible system where function and aggregation properties can be controlled independently, and thus pave the way for novel applications in material sciences as well as in life sciences.", "doi": "10.1002/smll.202400827", "pmid": "38660701", "labels": {"Swedish NMR Centre": "Service"}, "xrefs": [], "notes": [], "created": "2024-11-28T14:38:14.040Z", "modified": "2025-10-17T13:03:52.867Z"}, {"entity": "publication", "iuid": "bb997306e41d4015a6818367c73c9090", "links": {"self": {"href": "https://publications.scilifelab.se/publication/bb997306e41d4015a6818367c73c9090.json"}, "display": {"href": "https://publications.scilifelab.se/publication/bb997306e41d4015a6818367c73c9090"}}, "title": "Next-Generation Sequencing Reveals Differential Responses to Acute versus Long-Term Exposures to Graphene Oxide in Human Lung Cells.", "authors": [{"family": "Mukherjee", "given": "Sourav P", "initials": "SP"}, {"family": "Gupta", "given": "Govind", "initials": "G"}, {"family": "Kl\u00f6ditz", "given": "Katharina", "initials": "K"}, {"family": "Wang", "given": "Jun", "initials": "J"}, {"family": "Rodrigues", "given": "Artur Filipe", "initials": "AF"}, {"family": "Kostarelos", "given": "Kostas", "initials": "K"}, {"family": "Fadeel", "given": "Bengt", "initials": "B", "orcid": "0000-0001-5559-8482", "researcher": {"href": "https://publications.scilifelab.se/researcher/959b4accdbfe49158353b8cb12260d1b.json"}}], "type": "journal article", "published": "2020-05-00", "journal": {"title": "Small", "issn": "1613-6829", "volume": "16", "issue": "21", "pages": "e1907686", "issn-l": "1613-6810"}, "abstract": "Numerous studies have addressed the biological impact of graphene-based materials including graphene oxide (GO), yet few have focused on long-term effects. Here, RNA sequencing is utilized to unearth responses of human lung cells to GO. To this end, the BEAS-2B cell line derived from normal human bronchial epithelium is subjected to repeated, low-dose exposures of GO (1 or 5 \u00b5g mL-1 ) for 28 days or to the equivalent, cumulative amount of GO for 48 h. Then, samples are analyzed by using the NovaSeq 6000 sequencing system followed by pathway analysis and gene ontology enrichment analysis of the differentially expressed genes. Significant differences are seen between the low-dose, long-term exposures and the high-dose, short-term exposures. Hence, exposure to GO for 48 h results in mitochondrial dysfunction. In contrast, exposure to GO for 28 days is characterized by engagement of apoptosis pathways with downregulation of genes belonging to the inhibitor of apoptosis protein (IAP) family. Validation experiments confirm that long-term exposure to GO affects the apoptosis threshold in lung cells, accompanied by a loss of IAPs. These studies reveal the sensitivity of RNA-sequencing approaches and show that acute exposure to GO is not a good predictor of the long-term effects of GO.", "doi": "10.1002/smll.201907686", "pmid": "32227449", "labels": {"National Genomics Infrastructure": "Service", "NGI Stockholm (Genomics Applications)": "Service", "NGI Stockholm (Genomics Production)": "Service"}, "xrefs": [], "notes": [], "created": "2020-07-08T13:04:38.790Z", "modified": "2021-11-10T12:51:36.115Z"}, {"entity": "publication", "iuid": "485c0e77db204375a363d52498ed532f", "links": {"self": {"href": "https://publications.scilifelab.se/publication/485c0e77db204375a363d52498ed532f.json"}, "display": {"href": "https://publications.scilifelab.se/publication/485c0e77db204375a363d52498ed532f"}}, "title": "Implantable Organic Electronic Ion Pump Enables ABA Hormone Delivery for Control of Stomata in an Intact Tobacco Plant.", "authors": [{"family": "Bernacka-Wojcik", "given": "Iwona", "initials": "I", "orcid": "0000-0002-7135-8275", "researcher": {"href": "https://publications.scilifelab.se/researcher/393624af38a04a6fa724f1d4f33cf0e6.json"}}, {"family": "Huerta", "given": "Miriam", "initials": "M", "orcid": "0000-0002-9487-1776", "researcher": {"href": "https://publications.scilifelab.se/researcher/93277fa1e96a4b1694111a5cb98581ff.json"}}, {"family": "Tybrandt", "given": "Klas", "initials": "K", "orcid": "0000-0002-9845-446X", "researcher": {"href": "https://publications.scilifelab.se/researcher/2ca6fa2864d144a4b1534189540c6af7.json"}}, {"family": "Karady", "given": "Michal", "initials": "M", "orcid": "0000-0002-5603-706X", "researcher": {"href": "https://publications.scilifelab.se/researcher/114911ccd31849e1a7584b5a52e9eb14.json"}}, {"family": "Mulla", "given": "Mohammad Yusuf", "initials": "MY", "orcid": "0000-0002-1949-6144", "researcher": {"href": "https://publications.scilifelab.se/researcher/facfee8015a747529b14c00c8f25b3b3.json"}}, {"family": "Poxson", "given": "David J", "initials": "DJ", "orcid": "0000-0002-4246-8723", "researcher": {"href": "https://publications.scilifelab.se/researcher/b9282ef8814a48c5abd57f14bda5a140.json"}}, {"family": "Gabrielsson", "given": "Erik O", "initials": "EO", "orcid": "0000-0002-0302-226X", "researcher": {"href": "https://publications.scilifelab.se/researcher/86dfde281cea4536a9d73ba879e0f2e4.json"}}, {"family": "Ljung", "given": "Karin", "initials": "K", "orcid": "0000-0003-2901-189X", "researcher": {"href": "https://publications.scilifelab.se/researcher/f91b1e1f90c24559b915ebcd265804a4.json"}}, {"family": "Simon", "given": "Daniel T", "initials": "DT", "orcid": "0000-0002-2799-3490", "researcher": {"href": "https://publications.scilifelab.se/researcher/062af2c2b5e94ee5ae1ab5bb7c44b609.json"}}, {"family": "Berggren", "given": "Magnus", "initials": "M"}, {"family": "Stavrinidou", "given": "Eleni", "initials": "E"}], "type": "journal article", "published": "2019-10-00", "journal": {"title": "Small", "issn": "1613-6829", "volume": "15", "issue": "43", "pages": "e1902189", "issn-l": "1613-6810"}, "abstract": "Electronic control of biological processes with bioelectronic devices holds promise for sophisticated regulation of physiology, for gaining fundamental understanding of biological systems, providing new therapeutic solutions, and digitally mediating adaptations of organisms to external factors. The organic electronic ion pump (OEIP) provides a unique means for electronically-controlled, flow-free delivery of ions, and biomolecules at cellular scale. Here, a miniaturized OEIP device based on glass capillary fibers (c-OEIP) is implanted in a biological organism. The capillary form factor at the sub-100 \u00b5m scale of the device enables it to be implanted in soft tissue, while its hyperbranched polyelectrolyte channel and addressing protocol allows efficient delivery of a large aromatic molecule. In the first example of an implantable bioelectronic device in plants, the c-OEIP readily penetrates the leaf of an intact tobacco plant with no significant wound response (evaluated up to 24 h) and effectively delivers the hormone abscisic acid (ABA) into the leaf apoplast. OEIP-mediated delivery of ABA, the phytohormone that regulates plant's tolerance to stress, induces closure of stomata, the microscopic pores in leaf's epidermis that play a vital role in photosynthesis and transpiration. Efficient and localized ABA delivery reveals previously unreported kinetics of ABA-induced signal propagation.", "doi": "10.1002/smll.201902189", "pmid": "31513355", "labels": {"Swedish Metabolomics Centre": "Service"}, "xrefs": [], "notes": [], "created": "2020-01-21T10:11:06.270Z", "modified": "2025-10-17T13:03:17.310Z"}], "created": "2020-01-21T10:11:06.278Z", "modified": "2020-11-27T13:14:06.102Z"}
