In the present study, we conducted a genome-wide association study (GWAS) for nine fatty acid traits using the whole genome sequences of 160 representative Chinese peanut landraces and identified 6-1195 significant SNPs for different fatty acid contents. Particularly for oleic acid and linoleic acid, two peak SNP clusters on Arahy.09 and Arahy.19 were found to contain the majority of the significant SNPs associated with these two fatty acids. Additionally, a significant proportion of the candidate genes identified on Arahy.09 overlap with those identified in early studies, among which three candidate genes are of special interest. One possesses a significant missense SNP and encodes a known candidate gene FAD2A. The second gene is the gene closest to the most significant SNP for linoleic acid. It codes for an MYB protein that has been demonstrated to impact fatty acid biosynthesis in Arabidopsis. The third gene harbors a missense SNP and encodes a JmjC domain-containing protein. The significant phenotypic difference in the oleic acid/linoleic acid between the genotypes at the first and third candidate genes was further confirmed with PARMS analysis. In addition, we have also identified different candidate genes (i.e., Arahy.ZV39IJ, Arahy.F9E3EA, Arahy.X9ZZC1, and Arahy.Z0ELT9) for the remaining fatty acids. Our findings can help us gain a better understanding of the genetic foundation of peanut fatty acid contents and may hold great potential for enhancing peanut quality in the future.", "doi": "10.3390/plants13010016", "pmid": "38202325", "labels": {"Bioinformatics Support and Infrastructure": "Collaborative", "Bioinformatics Support, Infrastructure and Training": "Collaborative", "Bioinformatics (NBIS)": "Collaborative"}, "xrefs": [{"db": "pmc", "key": "PMC10780752"}, {"db": "pii", "key": "plants13010016"}], "notes": [], "created": "2024-09-02T08:23:31.998Z", "modified": "2024-09-02T08:23:32.273Z"}, {"entity": "publication", "iuid": "c967041b267f41fd974b26f96ba209f6", "links": {"self": {"href": "https://publications.scilifelab.se/publication/c967041b267f41fd974b26f96ba209f6.json"}, "display": {"href": "https://publications.scilifelab.se/publication/c967041b267f41fd974b26f96ba209f6"}}, "title": "Biocontrol Effect of Clonostachys rosea on Fusarium graminearum Infection and Mycotoxin Detoxification in Oat (Avena sativa).", "authors": [{"family": "Khairullina", "given": "Alfia", "initials": "A", "orcid": "0000-0002-3155-7659", "researcher": {"href": "https://publications.scilifelab.se/researcher/ec050a4787a44f34a4c4b2f3399b1944.json"}}, {"family": "Micic", "given": "Nikola", "initials": "N", "orcid": "0000-0003-3173-6566", "researcher": {"href": "https://publications.scilifelab.se/researcher/d6ae804d2bec4e2483aa2ff7a9d44af7.json"}}, {"family": "J\u00f8rgensen", "given": "Hans J Lyngs", "initials": "HJL", "orcid": "0000-0002-5902-6550", "researcher": {"href": "https://publications.scilifelab.se/researcher/2deeeabf0d8b45788bc50958112a28c0.json"}}, {"family": "Bjarnholt", "given": "Nanna", "initials": "N"}, {"family": "B\u00fclow", "given": "Leif", "initials": "L", "orcid": "0000-0003-4966-8610", "researcher": {"href": "https://publications.scilifelab.se/researcher/74ae5c1538cb445b8b103d3821594119.json"}}, {"family": "Collinge", "given": "David B", "initials": "DB", "orcid": "0000-0001-6869-3585", "researcher": {"href": "https://publications.scilifelab.se/researcher/4f71724dbfd74a07a18c520587f50325.json"}}, {"family": "Jensen", "given": "Birgit", "initials": "B", "orcid": "0000-0003-2476-805X", "researcher": {"href": "https://publications.scilifelab.se/researcher/44f5c29ecbe742de82a9ca434b809614.json"}}], "type": "journal article", "published": "2023-01-21", "journal": {"title": "Plants (Basel)", "issn": "2223-7747", "volume": "12", "issue": "3", "issn-l": null}, "abstract": "Oat (Avena sativa) is susceptible to Fusarium head blight (FHB). The quality of oat grain is threatened by the accumulation of mycotoxins, particularly the trichothecene deoxynivalenol (DON), which also acts as a virulence factor for the main pathogen Fusarium graminearum. The plant can defend itself, e.g., by DON detoxification by UGT-glycosyltransferases (UTGs) and accumulation of PR-proteins, even though these mechanisms do not deliver effective levels of resistance. We studied the ability of the fungal biocontrol agent (BCA) Clonostachys rosea to reduce FHB and mycotoxin accumulation. Greenhouse trials showed that C. rosea-inoculation of oat spikelets at anthesis 3 days prior to F. graminearum inoculation reduced both the amount of Fusarium DNA (79%) and DON level (80%) in mature oat kernels substantially. DON applied to C. rosea-treated spikelets resulted in higher conversion of DON to DON-3-Glc than in mock treated plants. Moreover, there was a significant enhancement of expression of two oat UGT-glycosyltransferase genes in C. rosea-treated oat. In addition, C. rosea treatment activated expression of genes encoding four PR-proteins and a WRKY23-like transcription factor, suggesting that C. rosea may induce resistance in oat. Thus, C. rosea IK726 has strong potential to be used as a BCA against FHB in oat as it inhibits F. graminearum infection effectively, whilst detoxifying DON mycotoxin rapidly.", "doi": "10.3390/plants12030500", "pmid": "36771583", "labels": {"Swedish Metabolomics Centre": "Service"}, "xrefs": [{"db": "pmc", "key": "PMC9918947"}, {"db": "pii", "key": "plants12030500"}], "notes": [], "created": "2023-08-30T07:07:21.260Z", "modified": "2025-10-17T13:03:14.468Z"}, {"entity": "publication", "iuid": "497d78814e574349803eab61487da580", "links": {"self": {"href": "https://publications.scilifelab.se/publication/497d78814e574349803eab61487da580.json"}, "display": {"href": "https://publications.scilifelab.se/publication/497d78814e574349803eab61487da580"}}, "title": "Soil Microbiome Influences on Seedling Establishment and Growth of Prosopis chilensis and Prosopis tamarugo from Northern Chile.", "authors": [{"family": "Castro", "given": "David", "initials": "D", "orcid": "0000-0003-0836-6624", "researcher": {"href": "https://publications.scilifelab.se/researcher/04be48fb09cc4c868f2dbdb90e461a23.json"}}, {"family": "Concha", "given": "Christopher", "initials": "C"}, {"family": "Jamett", "given": "Fabiola", "initials": "F"}, {"family": "Ib\u00e1\u00f1ez", "given": "Cristian", "initials": "C", "orcid": "0000-0001-7767-6488", "researcher": {"href": "https://publications.scilifelab.se/researcher/5c276a57fcef465996a2ba6c316535eb.json"}}, {"family": "Hurry", "given": "Vaughan", "initials": "V", "orcid": "0000-0001-5151-5184", "researcher": {"href": "https://publications.scilifelab.se/researcher/094945ff08b940579618f5a75fcc98a9.json"}}], "type": "journal article", "published": "2022-10-14", "journal": {"title": "Plants (Basel)", "issn": "2223-7747", "issn-l": null, "volume": "11", "issue": "20", "pages": null}, "abstract": "Prosopis chilensis and Prosopis tamarugo, two woody legumes adapted to the arid regions of Chile, have a declining distribution due to the lack of new seedling establishment. This study investigated the potential of both species to establish in soil collected from four locations in Chile, within and outside the species distribution, and to assess the role of the root-colonizing microbiome in seedling establishment and growth. Seedling survival, height, and water potential were measured to assess establishment success and growth. 16S and ITS2 amplicon sequencing was used to characterize the composition of microbial communities from the different soils and to assess the ability of both Prosopis species to recruit bacteria and fungi from the different soils. Both species were established on three of the four soils. P. tamarugo seedlings showed significantly higher survival in foreign soils and maintained significantly higher water potential in Mediterranean soils. Amplicon sequencing showed that the four soils harbored distinct microbial communities. Root-associated microbial composition indicated that P. chilensis preferentially recruited mycorrhizal fungal partners while P. tamarugo recruited abundant bacteria with known salt-protective functions. These compounds have the potential for applications in medicine, bioengineering and crop protection thanks to their multiple biological activities. In most cases, cyclotides are extracted from plant material. Plant cell culture provides a viable and sustainable form of plant biomass production Cyclotides are host defense peptides. The aim of the current study was to test whether different plant stress hormones and biological elicitors have effects on cyclotide production in Viola uliginosa suspension cultures. Different concentrations of jasmonic acid (JA), salicylic acid (SA), abscisic acid (ABA) and neutralized pathogens were tested. The cyclotide production was assessed using MALDI-MS. Five major peptides produced by V. uliginosa cultures were chosen for analysis, of which one was sequenced de novo. The treatments had little influence on the suspension's growth, with the exception of 100 \u03bcM SA, which enhanced the biomass increase, and 100 \u03bcM ABA, which was toxic. Significant increases in the production of three cyclotides (viul M, cyO13 and cyO3) were observed in suspensions primed with JA (50 \u03bcM, 100 \u03bcM, 200 \u03bcM) after 14 days of culturing. Biotic elicitors had no observable effect on cyclotide production. The current study indicates that some cyclotides in V. uliginosa are triggered in response to JA. At present, the disease is controlled by chemical fungicides, yet rapid development of fungicide resistance renders current control strategies unsustainable. On top of that, a lack of understanding of potato defences and the quantitative nature of resistance mechanisms against early blight hinders the development of more sustainable control methods. Necrotrophic pathogens, compared to biotrophs, pose an extra challenge to the plant, since common defence strategies to biotic stresses such as the hypersensitive response and programmed cell death are often beneficial for necrotrophs. With the aim of unravelling plant responses to both the early infection stages (i.e., before necrosis), such as appressorium formation and penetration, as well as to later responses to the onset of necrosis, we present here a transcriptome analysis of potato interactions with A. solani from 1 h after inoculation when the conidia have just commenced germination, to 48 h post inoculation when multiple cell necrosis has begun. Potato transcripts with putative functions related to biotic stress tolerance and defence against pathogens were upregulated, including a putative Nudix hydrolase that may play a role in defence against oxidative stress.
